Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteerism is a critical adjunct to the stability of Carver School programs. Carver parents expend many hours supporting activities that enrich the education for all our children. There are endless volunteer opportunities available regardless of the amount of time you can contribute. Consider volunteering and be an example for your child. Show you care about Carver students’ education. Read through this list of some of our activities and contact PTA President Annie Tang at [email protected].

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

BIKE RODEO

All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade children may participate in the Bike Rodeo administered by the Safety Committee and the San Marino Police Department.  Volunteers set up and supervise the written and riding tests that the children must pass to receive permission to ride their bikes to school.

PARENT PARTY

This main fundraiser of the year requires many volunteers for its multifaceted activities:  advertising, sales, decorating, planning, printing, cashiering, writing, copying, etc.

RED RIBBON WEEK

Volunteers help decorate the school and assist with children's pledges to make healthy choices.

BOOK FAIR

The Carver Book Fair is one of the most beloved events of the year!  Parents and kids alike love browsing books and supporting the Carver library as well as their classroom libraries.  Volunteers will set up, take down, and/or work one or more shifts or during the fair.  Through the sale of books and educational materials, this fair helps to expand the classrooms’ and Library’s book collections.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Only TK-2nd grade children perform during the Holiday Program. Volunteers will check in guest for shows, assist in seating, and provide backstage assistance during the rehearsals and shows.

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

An all-grade level celebration!  Volunteers will serve food, work with the children at the various arts and crafts booths, as well as help decorate, set-up, and tear down.

SCIENCE FAIR

This fair exhibits all of our participating students’ science projects.  Volunteers help by setting up and taking down the exhibits, guiding classroom tours, and/or visitors during Family Night.  No science background is required.

SPRING MUSICAL PROGRAM

Are you a parent of a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader?  This spring, your child will sing in the patriotic musical program, and we need your help to volunteer for the day of the show.  Volunteers will check in guest for shows, assist in seating, and provide backstage assistance during the rehearsals and shows. Help our students finish off the year with a wonderful music program!

CARVER CARNIVAL

This year's carnival will be AMAZING!  If you would like to help with preparations, lead a booth or activity, or work behind the scenes, please contact our chairs for more details.  Thank you for your awesome service to Carver kids!

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS

Parent volunteers assist the librarians in the routines necessary for the running of the Carver School Library.  No library experience is necessary.  Carver librarians will provide orientation and a regular schedule.  With the help of volunteers, the library is open Monday through Friday and enjoyed by all grade levels.  (Note:  The Read Aloud Program is a separate program with sign-up sheets available through your child's classroom and the Library.)

SAFETY

Volunteers assist with drop-off and/or pick-up, as well as chaperone children during Walk to School Friday mornings.

YEARBOOK

Volunteers will take, edit and tag pictures of school events, and facilitate the editing and production of the yearbook.
