Hello Wonderful Pioneers One and All!
We are elated to share that our AC seems to be repaired and that school will be open as usual on Monday.
I want to thank everyone for their patience and help as we were faced with this emergency closure due to the extreme heat with no AC in the majority of our buildings. Behind our decision to close was student, staff and family safety, which always comes first for us at Carver and in SMUSD.
I want to give a special thanks to our Director of Maintenance and Operations and his team. They were literally working in temperatures of 113 degrees near the chiller on Friday and Saturday to get our AC unit back up and running.
Monday and Tuesday of this coming week are still predicted to have extreme heat. We will be watching that closely. As of now, we anticipate implementing inclement weather protocols during school. This means indoor recess and shortened lunch periods where students will be in our air conditioned auditorium when they would ordinarily be playing outside. Please help your children to understand that we take these measures to keep them safe. For context, we took the temperature of the blacktop on Friday at 1:30 and it was 151 degrees (the temperature was taken right near the lunch court).
Thank you again for your patience and understanding during our emergency closure. Though our HVAC system is running it has real issues. We are reasonably assured that it will run through the remainder of this current heat wave. However, I want for everyone to know that ongoing inspections and maintenance are already, or are being, scheduled.
We look forward to seeing everyone back at Carver on Monday morning!
