K.L. Carver Elementary School

Principal's Message

Dear Carver families,

The faculty and staff of Carver Elementary School are excited to welcome students to the 2019-20 school year! During the summer, Carver completed fire alarm testing, HVAC preventative maintenance, and filter changes, the de-greasing of kitchen exhaust fan and trimmed trees. Floors were re-waxed and classrooms cleaned. Old TVs and mounts were removed. The campus is ready for the new school year!

A core group of teachers volunteered their summer days to participate in professional development on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) instructional materials, which SMUSD will be piloting this year. Ongoing professional development on PowerSchool Unified Classroom, a tool that incorporates gradebook, learning, and assessments will take place throughout the year. Teachers and support staff will also receive ongoing training on ALICE, an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, which provides the school preparation on how to proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or critical incident event.

In addition to the priorities of student safety and well-being, educating students is the purpose and mission of K. L. Carver School. Our team of teachers and staff are tireless in innovating and applying new instructional strategies to reaching all students. We believe that a school community that is based on trust and is not afraid to make mistakes will create learning environments that encourage all students to explore, discover and share their voices. With the support of our school district, PTA, Enrichment Fund, and Carver families, all Carver students will have access to enrichment programs such as STEM, music, the Art Lab, and the Library.

Carver is blessed with devoted families and a wonderful community. Our school is grateful for the San Marino Schools Foundation. With your support, Carver continues to provide a world-class education to all students. The true difference is made through the dedicated time and financial support of our families and community.

We welcome our new and returning families to a new school year! Our school is here to serve our children and our community. Carver is wonderful because of you. Please check our school website atwww.carverschool.us for all the exciting events that our parent volunteers will be putting together this year.

Sincerely,
