PTA President's Message

Dear fellow PIONEERS!!

This year is the 75th anniversary of K.L. Carver Elementary School at our current location. It is awe-inspiring to think of all the journeys that our teachers, staff and families have experienced during that time.  Imagine the stories that they could tell!

With that in mind, this year’s PTA theme is “Carver Storytellers - Imagine, Create, Inspire”.  Our special community is the beginning chapter of so many untold stories and the PTA’s role is to help provide our students with resources and learning experiences so that they can each find their own individual voices.

I want to warmly welcome all of our Carver friends, especially our new families. It’s hard to believe that my husband and I nervously guided our oldest child into the Newcomer’s Social way back in 2010! In the eight years since, our family has enjoyed numerous Carver picnics, book fairs, science fairs, and Lunar New Year celebrations. We applauded at holiday shows, patriotic programs, and promotion ceremonies.  We have watched our three children, now starting 8th, 5th and 2nd grade, grow and learn in physical education, STEM lab, art, music and library. So many of these programs and events, as well as much needed classroom funds, are directly sponsored by the PTA.

The PTA's four largest fundraisers are our Fall Fundraiser, Jog-a-thon, Parent Party and Carver Carnival.  Our Charleston Wrap fundraiser will kick-off on August 31st where you can purchase beautiful gift wrap, household items, and tasty treats - now all available online and delivered to your home.   Our patriotic Jog-a-thon is planned for Thursday, November 8th. This fun event celebrates fitness while raising money for school technology. Please plan to sponsor and come cheer your child on!  Of course, make sure you save the date on Saturday, March 2nd for “The Greatest Show: A Million Dreams Gala”. Our annual parent party is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other parents, support our largest fundraiser and enjoy an unforgettable evening!  Finally, on Saturday, April 26th, wrap up the school year with one of our most cherished Carver traditions, the always popular Carver Carnival.

Carver is a community that thrives on generous and vibrant parent involvement. Our amazing teachers rely on PTA support to continue providing world-class education for our students.  Your contribution, whether in time, knowledge, or resources, make a palpable difference and show your children the importance you place on their education!

There’s quite a lot going on these first few weeks.  Please check the calendar on our www.carverschool.us for up-to-date information.  Meanwhile, here are some highlights:

First Day Packet information will be completed online. Your login information and a link will be emailed (or mailed) to you on July 31. Here you will submit all of the information Carver needs about your child as well as find other useful school information, PTA membership forms and much more. If you have any questions about the online process, please email: infosnap@smusd.us.

Start the school year in a sweet way with our Newcomer's Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 12th from 3-5pm at the Carver lunch courts. This special event welcomes all new students and helps them get to know our other families, campus, PTA, and our Carver community.

Monday, August 13th is the first day of school, and also the Volunteer Fair. Join us after dropping off your children at 8:30am in the “quad” by the auditorium to find ways to get involved. I hope to see you all there!

Save the date for Carver's Back to School Night on Thursday, August 23rd where you will hear from your child's teacher about their goals and expectations for the year.

We hope you will all join us at our monthly PTA meetings to follow ongoing topics and current events going on at our school.  This year, our First PTA meeting will be an evening meeting on Monday September 10th, 6:30pm in Scrim Auditorium.  This will be a PTA association meeting with Dr. Lin as our main speaker, followed by a small group session for parents to get more information about Carver, the school community, and what to expect for the upcoming school year.

Carver PTA will also be hosting New Parent Orientation on Friday, August 17th at 8:30am and a Translated Parent Coffee coming up in early September.

Finally, make sure to mark your calendar for the Carver Family Picnic on Thursday, September 20th. This is a special Carver tradition where you bring your entire family to have a picnic dinner and enjoy the company of our Carver community.
