PTA President's Message

Dear Carver Pioneers,

I want to extend my warmest welcome to you and your family for the 2019-2020 school year.  I am honored to serve as Carver PTA’s President for the upcoming year.  This year’s PTA theme is “Back to Basics: Carver, Family, Community.”  I want to focus on engaging our families and strengthening our community so that the PTA can continue to support programs and services at Carver that enrich our children’s lives.

My family started at Carver in 2014 when my oldest daughter entered kindergarten.  My daughters are now incoming 5th and 3rd graders.  Over the years, our family has attended family picnics, book fairs, holiday programs, science fairs, carnivals, and spring patriotic programs.  My girls have participated in the Reflections art program, and I walk to school with them every Friday with the Walking School Bus.  They have attended PE, art lab, STEM lab, and music classes.  They have used 3-D printers for their school projects.  One of their favorite places on campus is the beautiful Carver Library.  All of these activities and programs are supported by Carver PTA.

The PTA’s ability to support these programs and many others is possible because of generous donations of time, expertise, and funds.  One of the things that makes Carver so special is the incredible dedication and support given by the Carver teachers, staff, parents, and community.  I invite you to be a part of Carver PTA.  One of the best ways to be a part of the Carver community is to volunteer.  Volunteering gives you the opportunity to meet other parents and get to know the teachers, staff, and your child’s classmates.  A few ways you can volunteer are to assist in the art lab, read a book at the library, serve on a PTA committee, or chair an event.  There are volunteer opportunities for everyone!

Through the PTA’s various fundraisers, we raise much-needed money to help fund the library, art, music, STEM programs, and so much more.  The Fall Fundraiser kicks off on August 30th, the Jog-A-Thon is on November 7th, the Parent Party is on February 29th, and the Carver Carnival is on April 18th.  Your contribution of time, knowledge, or resources makes a difference.  Thank you for helping in any way you can and showing your children the importance you place on their education.

The first few weeks of school are quite busy.  Please check the school calendar for up-to-date information.  Some highlights of upcoming important events are:

Families with students new to Carver are invited to attend our Newcomers’ Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 11th from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Carver lunch court.  This event welcomes all new students and helps them get to know other Carver families, the campus, PTA, and our Carver community.

The first day of school is on Wednesday, August 14th, and it is also a minimum day with dismissal at 12:30 pm.  There are two events on the first day of school.  Parents are encouraged to join us in the courtyard in front of Scrim Auditorium at 8:30 am for the Volunteer Fair to see the many ways you can get involved.  Parents of kindergarten and TK students are invited to the TK/K Meet and Greet in the kindergarten yard at 8:30 am to meet the teachers and get familiar with Carver.  There will also be volunteer sign-ups available at the TK/K Meet and Greet.

Parents of new students are invited to the New Family Orientation on Friday, August 16th at 8:30 am in Scrim Auditorium. You will learn about the basics of Carver and hear from our school Principal, Dr. Lin.

Back to School Night is on Thursday, August 22nd.  Your child’s teacher will share their goals and expectations for the year, and you will get the chance to meet the parents of your child’s classmates.

I hope you will join us for our monthly PTA meetings to hear about current events going on at Carver.  Our first PTA meeting will be in the evening on Monday, September 9th at 6:30 pm in Scrim Auditorium.  Following the meeting, parents can break out into small groups to get more information about Carver, the school community, and what to expect for the upcoming school year.

Finally, the Carver Family Picnic is on Thursday, September 19th at 5:30 pm.  Bring your entire family and a picnic dinner, and enjoy the company of our Carver community on the school field.

I am so grateful for the Carver families, teachers, and staff members I have gotten to know over the years and have become a community for me and my family.  I look forward to getting to know you all this year and building an even stronger Carver community!

Sincerely,

Lauren Shen
